About

Crossroads Ranch of harney county is located in Burns, Oregon, a small, rural town in eastern Oregon.

Heidi experiences Downs Syndrome and was so excited to be a part of our first horse camp.

We are a non-profit equine activity center, set up to serve people with Traumatic Brain Injury, PTSD, emotional and cognitive disabilities, either developmental or acquired.

We have a large Veteran population in our county, with about 1 in 7 county residents being a Veteran.  Our plan is to provide at least one day per week dedicated solely to working with Veterans and Emergency Responders.

Along with riding activities, we will offer job and life skills training, and other non-riding activities such as gardening, cooking, and basic auto mechanics classes, a small petting zoo, a small black-smith shop, a shoe repair facility, and eventually a coffee shop and miniature golf course.

My son, Arly, was critically injured in an auto accident on January 1, 2014. He suffered many broken bones, the loss of vision in his left eye and a serious brain injury. We are in the process of learning to deal with the many changes that affect a person and family who have experienced that type of injury.

While we were getting treatments for Arly’s injuries at the Carrick Brain Center in Texas we learned that riding horses was an excellent therapy for brain issues. That started a dream. Arly can’t ride just any horse anymore. It needs to be notably very quiet and mellow as the risk of another hit to his head could be deadly. So, we began looking into different types of equine therapy facilities with specially trained horses. The nearest one is 130 miles away. We decided we needed one here in Harney County.

Approximately 15% of our population experience some type of brain affected disability including, traumatic brain injury, PTSD, Down’s Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, tumors and aneurisms to name but a few.
Crossroads Ranch of Harney County was formed to fill a need so desperate in our community.
